Statement from the Killorglin Chamber Alliance
Since its inception, the Killorglin Chamber Alliance (KCA) has been consistently dedicated to fostering economic growth and advancing infrastructure enhancements. The current voluntary committee of the KCA has been integral in propelling key initiatives forward through collaborative partnerships with Kerry County Council and various stakeholders.
Acknowledging the Alliance’s significance and ongoing impact, we find ourselves at a critical juncture due to the unfulfilled position of the chairperson. This pivotal role is essential for the organisation’s efficacy, and despite concerted recruitment efforts, our objectives remain unmet. Consequently, we reluctantly conclude that dissolution of the KCA is the only feasible option unless this vacancy is filled within a six-week timeframe.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all past and present members, stakeholders, and supporters who have contributed to our mission over the years.
While certain current committee members have expressed their willingness to continue serving, the dissolution of the KCA would halt crucial events and initiatives, including digital outreach via killorglin.ie, Christmas in Killorglin, essential engagement with Kerry County Council regarding the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF), and more.
As you may be aware, Killorglin has been allocated €962k from the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund, with an additional €241k from Kerry County Council, totalling €1.2m. This funding will support projects aimed at repurposing a key vacant building into a multifunctional hub for tourism, education, training, and co-working, renovating a derelict former courthouse into a heritage and cultural centre, implementing public realm enhancements with smart travel and public spaces, and improving connectivity to the amenities of the River Laune.
Given the significance of this project for our town, it is imperative that KCA’s efforts persist. However, we require the collective support of local businesses, organisations, and residents. By joining forces to address common challenges and explore opportunities for economic growth and community development collaboratively, we can unlock boundless potential for our town.
