Killorglin Awarded Heritage Council Grant to Survey Chub’s Yard
Killorglin Chamber Alliance is pleased to share that we have been awarded funding from the Heritage Council for a new historical project focused on Chub’s Yard in Killorglin Town Park.
This important initiative will carry out a non-invasive survey of the grain store, the semi-detached derelict buildings, and the wider yard area, aiming to uncover their historical significance and current condition.
What the Project Involves:
- A visual condition survey of Chub’s Yard and surrounding structures
- A line and level survey, producing accurate digital plans of the standing buildings
- A report detailing the historical significance of the structures
- Prioritised recommendations for further surveys and conservation work
The survey is non-invasive, meaning there will be no disturbance or risk to the existing structures. The goal is to build a clear, respectful understanding of the site’s heritage as a first step toward future preservation and community use.
A Hidden Gem with Big Potential
The yard is just a short walk from the town centre and connected into the walking park and riverside greenway. With proper care and investment, this space could become a valuable community asset, offering a blend of history, green space, and connectivity in the heart of Killorglin.
Join Us During Heritage Week
As part of the project, we’ll be hosting a Walk and Talk event during Heritage Week with the archaeologist leading the survey. We also hope to be joined by members of the Killorglin Archive Society to share local knowledge and stories.

Thank You to the Heritage Council
We gratefully acknowledge the generous support of the Heritage Council, whose continued investment in Killorglin’s built heritage is helping us uncover and protect the stories embedded in our local landscape. This grant builds on earlier support for the town park and shows what can be achieved when communities and heritage come together.
