What Local Employers Need to Know: Recap from Killorglin’s Employment Supports Event
Monday morning in Killorglin was nothing short of stunning. With blue skies overhead and views stretching out from Maine Valley Members Golf Club and the Harbour View Bar & Restaurant, it was the perfect setting for local businesses to come together for a focused, practical session on employment supports.
Hosted by Intreo in collaboration with the Killorglin Chamber Alliance, the event brought together employers from all sectors to learn more about the services available to them — and more importantly, how those supports can make a real impact, both financially and within their teams.

Killorglin business community comes together to explore employment supports.
It was a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. People grabbed a coffee, caught up with familiar faces, and settled in for a series of short, sharp talks packed with useful insights. Each speaker brought something different to the table, and by the end of the hour, there was a genuine sense that many had learned something new.
A Strong Message for Employers
One of the standout takeaways came from Miriam of Employability Kerry, who reminded us that hiring someone with a disability does not mean hiring someone in a wheelchair. In fact, 83% of people with disabilities acquire them during their lives. She also outlined the wage subsidy of €6.30 per hour available to employers, as well as the benefit of working with a jobs coach to ensure a smooth transition for both the business and the employee.
Bernadette Cahill from Intreo opened the event by welcoming everyone and highlighting the pathways to work and free job listings on JobsIreland.ie. She made a lasting impression with her hands-on approach and commitment to helping employers access the right supports.
Conor from the Local Enterprise Office Kerry shared updates on energy efficiency grants—currently offering 75% back on eligible purchases—as well as the open call for the Grow Digital grant to help businesses advance their online capabilities.
Kasia from Kerry College spoke about their new digital marketing apprenticeship launching this September and the broad range of subsidised training and business support apprenticeships available. Their in-house barista training has also proven hugely popular.
Gretel from South Kerry Skillnet closed with an overview of their mission to upskill and reskill individuals for lifelong learning. Their support is open to businesses of all sizes and not limited to any one sector, making it an invaluable resource for SMEs and sole traders alike.
