Jade O’Connor Releases New Single “Out of Time” – A Disco Anthem for the Dancefloor
Killorglin’s own Jade O’Connor is set to release her latest single, Out of Time, on February 14th, bringing her signature mix of electronic pop, disco, R&B, and house influences to the forefront. Known for her multidisciplinary approach to the arts—spanning acting, singing, dancing, and theatre-making—Jade’s musical journey has been anything but conventional.
From Stage to Studio – A Unique Musical Path
Jade has spent years collaborating with artists and theatre makers, performing nationally and internationally across various productions. She is a lead vocalist in WAKE by THISISPOPBABY and recently contributed her voice to Ar Scáth Céile, a new film by Aisling Ní Cheallaigh and Jenny Tufts. Her ability to blend theatre into her music-making process has shaped a sound that is both dynamic and deeply expressive.
“My music is a mix of electronic pop, disco, R&B, and house, but I love to experiment with my voice depending on the project,” says Jade. She draws inspiration from artists like Róisín Murphy, Grace Jones, Jessie Ware, Peggy Gou, Nina Simone, Stevie Nicks, and Florence Welch—a lineup that hints at the diverse textures in her music.
The Story Behind Out of Time
Unlike the classic idea of sudden inspiration striking, Jade takes a more meticulous approach to her craft.
“I don’t really get divine inspiration, unfortunately—I’m a sit-down-and-do-the-work-every-day kinda gal,” she laughs. “Everything I do comes from gathering and refining ideas over time.”
Originally built on a track by Aaron Cranley, Out of Time evolved over several years. The final version came together after extensive rewrites and collaboration with producer Alan Kelly, where the phrasing of the lyrics finally made it click.
A Track for the Dancefloor – and a Call to Keep Clubs Alive
Jade describes Out of Time as a song for the disco—and a fight to keep disco alive.
“The discos are dying, and I’m pushing that boulder up the hill! I want to go to clubs and festivals and dance to disco, house, and dance music, but our venues are closing down.”
The song isn’t about heartbreak, but rather about letting go and moving forward—whether romantically or platonically.
“I hope people put it on at a party and dance around to it—that would be the ideal place for it to be enjoyed!”
Killorglin’s Influence & What’s Next
Jade credits Killorglin’s rich musical history for shaping her artistic path.
“Our town is jam-packed with talent, and there’s a real renaissance of Irish music happening right now,” she says, mentioning local musicians like Barry Lynch, Brendan, Donal Maroney, and Mike Dowd.
What’s next for Jade? She’ll be heading to the West End and Manchester’s Aviva Stadium with WAKE in April, while also working on folk/world music collaborations and a theatre show, Malibu Disco, inspired by her mother’s dancing life.
